We Were Built for Belonging

It’s not an accident that we find ourselves wanting to belong and be known; God designed us that way. He created us for relationships. Being known - truly known - by others can also be a terrifying thought. For followers of Jesus, experiencing and contributing to community isn’t something we opt into; it is something we are called to.

We actively and intentionally pursue community with each other because we believe belonging takes priority in the life of a disciple - over our skepticism, over our previous bad experiences, over our calendars and schedules, and yes, even over our fears of rejection.

Community at The Chapel happens primarily through small groups. Adult small groups are how we as a church actively practice lives centered on Jesus Christ, shared in community. Our groups are full of imperfect people seeking to grow in how we might serve and love each other. In the face of frequent rejection, Christ modeled for us what it looks like to consider others over ourselves. We aim to follow his lead. Much like the early church, we devote our small group time together to teaching, fellowship, service, and prayer.

Though each group looks a little different, our hope in meeting together is always that we grow in friendship, prayer, accountability, care, and elevating each other in love. Our heart for gospel community flows out of the four B’s in our mission: believing, belonging, becoming, and building.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:34-35
